Impetigo treatment with bactroban?

Left untreated impetigo may resolve, however, it may continue to spread. A topical prescription medication known as Bactroban (mupirocin) is an effective impetigo treatment. Crusts should be removed by soaking and the base treated with Bactroban three times per day until the lesions have resolved.

Mupirocin (Bactroban) antibiotic

Mupirocin ointment is the first topical antibiotic approved for impetigo treatment. Bactroban is active against staphylococci (including methicillin-resistant strains) and streptococci.

Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin (Bactroban) and fusidic acid are the preferred first-line therapy for impetigo involving limited body surface area. Topical disinfectants such as hydrogen peroxide should not be used for impetigo treatment.
